Radio Chilmari wins ABU Prize 2016
Community Radio Chilmari 99.2 MHz, an alternative communication initiative of RDRS Bangladesh has won the prestigious Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) Prizes 2016 in two different categories of radio operation from Asia-Pacific region competing with public service broadcasters and private broadcasting channels. Radio Chilmari has been selected for the award among the total of 270 entries across the region.

The ABU Prizes 2016 is awarded to Radio Chilmari for the following areas: 1) News Reporting and 2) Special Jury Award on Radio Drama.

(** Radio Chilmari 99.2 Mhz is a community radio established by RDRS Bangladesh. The radio station is situated at Chilmari Upazial in Kurigram district. Radio Chilmari has started its journey in 2011 with a coverage of approximately 500,000 populace in the region.

** The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), formed in 1964, is a non-profit, professional association of broadcasting organisations. It currently has over 281 members in 69 countries and regions, reaching a potential audience of about 3 billion people. The ABU’s role is to help the development of broadcasting in the Asia-Pacific region and to promote the collective interests of its members. The ABU covers an area stretching from Turkey in the west to Samoa in the east, and from Russia in the north to New Zealand in the south. Its secretariat is located in Angkasapuri, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.)
