Demand for special allocation for Rangpur division

A pre-budget discussion for 2014-15 fiscal year was held on 2 May 2012 at Begum Rokeya Auditorium in Rangpur. The title of the discussion was ‘we demand special allocation for Rangpur division’. RDRS Bangladesh has organized the event as per its regular campaign for special budget allocation for Rangpur Division.

The Cabinet Minister of Government of Bangladesh for Cultural Affairs Mr Asaduzzaman Noor (Member of Parliament) was present as Chief Guest, while the Cabinet Minister for Primary and Mass Education Mr. Md. Mostafizur Rahman (Member of Parliament) chaired the event. Mr Md. Motahar Hossain (Member of Parliament), the Chairman of the parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, Mr Shorfuddin Ahmed Jhauntu, the Honorable Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation and Ms Minu Shill, the Director of Local Government, Rangpur Division were present as the Special Guests. Ms Monjusree Saha, Head of Programme Coordination of RDRS Bangladesh welcomed the guests.

Dr. Md. Morshed Hossain, Associate Professor of the Department of Economics of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur presented the keynote paper analytically screening the differentiations in budget allocation for Rangpur division than other divisions.

Local elites, community people, federation leaders took part in the discussion. The major demands came at the discussion were immediate gas supply, fair price for agricultural products, science and technology university, new railway line, inter-districts circular train service, industrialization, quality education, women development, etc.

RDRS Bangladesh has been organizing the national pre budget discussion since last three years. This discussion has now become a common platform to bring policy makers and community people together. This platform is giving them an opportunity to share and discuss the local issues, place their wants, and have commitments from the policy makers for the overall development of Rangpur division.
