Hindu Marriage Registration
Marriage Registration of Hindu Community
As part of the campaign on Hindu Marriage Registration in Bangladesh, Ms Monjusree Saha, Head of Programme Coordination, RDRS Bangladesh and her spouse Dr. Ajay Kumer Roy along with other six Doctor (Doctor of medicine) couples completed their marriage registration at Monjusree’s residence on 22 January 2016. It is hoped that their initiative will inspire other members of the Hindu community to register their marriage.
RDRS Bangladesh has been advocating for the Hindu Marriage Registration Law under the umbrella of Citizen’s Initiatives for Hindu Marriage Registration Law in Bangladesh. After series of consultations, meetings and advocacy activities, the Parliament of Bangladesh has passed the Hindu Marriage Registration ACT 2012 aimed at protecting the rights of the Hindu community, especially women from marriage-related problems. But the activists are continuing their advocacy activities on the issue as the ACT has been passed keeping the provision of marriage registration optional instead of making it compulsory.
