Flood in Bangladesh 2019: Situation Report 3, Dated 15 July, 2019
Overall situation: Heavy monsoon rainfall throughout the country since 9 July 2019 and onrush water from upstream have been causing a massive flood in low lying areas of Northern, North-eastern and South-eastern districts of Bangladesh.
Overall flood situation in the northern districts have been deteriorated as of today as the water levels of all major rivers marked rise inundating fresh areas, marooning thousands of people and disrupting road communications in four northern districts namely Kurigram, Nilphamari, Rangpur and Gaibandha. According to information of the District Relief and Rehabilitation Officers (DRRO), around 1.25 lakh families of 106 Unions in 20 Upazilas of the mentioned districts have been affected. The houses, tube-wells, latrines, roads in the affected areas went under the floodwater. People are also suffering from acute crisis of food, and drinking water. The flood water washed away many houses, livestocks and crops in many areas in the last few days. The flood victims are going through an indescribable misery for the last three days due to lack of food and other essentials. The government has launched relief operation in the affected areas. RDRS is closely monitoring the situation and assessing the damages, especially the crop damages. RDRS operated Community Radio Chilmari has been broadcasting the special program on flood situation and on airing the awareness message.
