Dr. Sumaiya Khair is a Professor of Law, University of Dhaka where she is currently serving as the Head of the Department. She has a Ph.D. from the U.K and is also a Commonwealth Academic Fellow. Professor Khair sits on the Editorial Boards of The Hague Journal on the Rule of Law, The Hague Institute of Internationalization of Law, The Netherlands, and the Journal of Law and Development, Law and Development Policy Research Institute, Dhaka. She was a member of the Editorial Boards of the Journal of the Faculty of Law, Part F, University of Dhaka from 2007-2010 and the Dhaka Bishyabidyalaya Patrika (Bangla Journal of the University of Dhaka) from 2005-2007 respectively. She was involved in the clinical legal education programme run by the Faculty of Law, University of Dhaka for a number of years. She holds executive positions in select research bodies and development organisations.
Professor Khair’s areas of interest include human rights, child rights, legal empowerment, labour standards, refugees, migration, gender issues and governance. She has written extensively on law, justice, human rights and governance and has to her credit a number of articles in both national and international journals and books. She has also authored four research books. She has been a consultant to UN agencies including the ILO and different international development partners. She serves as a resource person in select areas in national and international forums.
