RDRS' Development Programme
Having worked with millions of poverty-stricken women and men in the northwestern region of Bangladesh since 1972, the name of RDRS has become synonymous with development in the Rangpur and Dinajpur regions.

In 2000, not wishing to rest on past glories and present practices, RDRS decided to take time for retrospection and review of its policies, plans and projects. Out of this brainstorming came a new strategy, outlining the direction and policies for the period 2001-2005. Through this, RDRS aims to ensure its future efforts prove as effective and influential as earlier ones, or are even more so.

Organisationally, RDRS had to make further administrative and other adjustments in 2000, following the shift from an international to a national base and changes in its funding basis.

However, RDRS continues to focus on providing support to its beneficiaries, mainly through the Primary Groups and related Federations in the economic, social and environmental arenas. The challenge of improving the living standards of the poor in its working area keeps RDRS' attention on the day-to-day work of its projects and programmes.

Thus work for RDRS continues to provide micro-credit facilities, developing agriculture, widening off-farm economic opportunities, raising health standards, and protecting the physical environment. It delves further into raising awareness about human rights, with the emphasis on the workings of democratic institutions. RDRS takes new opportunities for close collaboration with Government and other agencies in a variety of areas.

With a dedicated staff working alongside its hopeful and resilient beneficiaries, RDRS hopes to make further strides in alleviating the poverty of northwestern Bangladesh.
