45 years of RDRS
RDRS Bangladesh has celebrated its 45 years anniversary on 8 February 2017. RDRS marked the day with informal staff gathering, remembering memories and cake carnival across the working area.
RDRS began its journey in 1972, providing relief to refugees returning from India after the war of independence of Bangladesh. For four years it has supported the rehabilitation and relief endeavors in the northwest region of the country.
From 1972 to 1996, RDRS operates its activities as one of the largest field program of Lutheran World Federation/Department of World Service, Geneva. RDRS’ programs and projects were regularly revised to ensure a high quality of provision to meet the ever-growing aspirations of the rural poor. In 1997, RDRS became a national NGO in Bangladesh.
Throughout its existence, RDRS has been influential in the field of rural development in Bangladesh, introducing new ideas and practices onto the global stage. Over the years, the organization has supported practical ventures, such as house building, road construction and new technologies. Constantly modifying social, health and educational provision has made it easy for its program participants to benefit fully from the best development ideas and practices.
With the vision ‘a just and peaceful Bangladeshi society where citizens live in dignity, freed from poverty, distress and ignorance in a sustainable environment’, RDRS Bangladesh is committed to continue its efforts for empowering the rural poor and bringing positive change in their life.
